Remember how I said that Jake was so cute in the mornings, knocking on his door and saying "knock-knock, Mommy! I'm ready! Where are you?"? In the past week, it has quickly changed to a very tearful "knock-knock. Mommy, I'm scared. I'm Scared. I'M SCARED! Where are you Mommy? Where's Jacob, Mommy? Get me!".
It's awful. It's early. It's frightening. And every day it's getting earlier and more cryier. It was 5.30 this morning. I try to tell him (groggily from my bed) everything is okay but he has to go back to bed because it is still nighttime, but it doesn't work. When I get to Jake's door there are tears running down his face and he is having a hard time breathing and he jumps into my arms and gives me a big hug and pats me on the back, saying "good morning! It's okay, Mommy. It's all okay. I'm okay, Mommy. I love you, Mommy. Milkshake, Mommy? Okay, Mommy. Let's go downstairs, Mommy. Elmo, Mommy? Thomas, Mommy? Bob Builda, Mommy? Okay, Mommy. Teletubbies, Mommy? Teletubbies, say hello!, Mommy".
Plus I'm reading this book every night until I fall asleep with it on my lap, so naturally I wake up in a cold sweat at his first cry, thinking that my child has made his way into an ever-expansive hidden vortex.

That is one of Bill's favorite books. Maybe it's time to switch to different night time material. :)
I know that feeling. JT did that a couple of times during the night and even a couple of times during his afternoon nap. It takes the breath right out of you, doesn't it?
Right there with you... we're going on week 3 of at least one night wakening. The good news is that it has gone from shrieks of terror to the sweetest little pitty-pat of feet across the room to my side of the bed just before he announces "Ernin seepin' in Mommy's bed" and crawls in. Damn if I hadn't gotten used to sleeping through the night, though. The interruptions are killing me!
Oh, the 5 1/2 minute hallway...
as a non parent: put the damn cat in their and tell jake it is a special "gaurd kitty". tell the cat to gaurd him or move out.
