kitchenspiration

My kitchen is Ninetiestacular. It's time to change that. I want it mostly white with a little bit of red and some aquaish turquoise stuff and I'd love a little bit of pink and yellow and orange in there but not too much and if something is kind of green but sorta goes with the blues I'd be really happy and I'll keep the black appliances even though I hate black appliances and I want to try to not buy anything brand new except for paint and a countertop.

It's great to live in this town because old people are always dying and their kids are always selling the awesome stuff at cut rate prices because the kids can't look at it without thinking about their hysteric-prone mothers and their neglectful boozehound fathers.

Excuse the cut rate photography on these pictures, but I walked around my house and took pictures of the things I love best in an attempt to infuse their souls all together in the room where I cook food and keep my trash. Isn't that gross? You can only keep the area surrounding your garbage can but so pristine.

the Christmas star from my childhood.
remember when you used to get a smoke with your martini there? I wonder if you still do now that you have to take it outside.

best on grilled cheese. with tomatoes. and instead of buttering your bread, try mayo. trust me.

sexy girl drink glasses from Hope. Best housewarming gift ever.

dollar store tea towels

the first expensive thing I've ever bought myself. I'd straighten the candle, but that would take effort. It's up high.

the kitchen from Blueberries for Sal by Robert McCloskey
my favorite page from a book I've had since the 70s
$4 shoes.
Gap, because I can't afford Pucci
this is my favorite dress
no, this is
and this one
I love this skirt, but it looks a bit busy with my tattoos so I don't wear it much

milkglass
best cocktail ring in the whole wide world. Don't hate. I'll let you wear it next time we go out.

I cut the yellow flower from a set of my grandmother's sheets. She died when I was 5 but if you open the back of that frame, the sheet still smells like her house.

This! This is exactly what I want! If I could do my entire kitchen in vintage glass beads, I would.
it's fake, but you can't tell in real life. real life doesn't have flash

I would put these shoes away, but I think they look adorable on the bench by the door.
best!
I know you want to do that to my mouth sometimes too. Sometimes I can be a bit much.
I dare you to try to touch my face. That little brat is lucky he gets away with it.

Okay.
So I have your solution.
At HOme Depot, they have these sections of glass like material that you can use for tiling that have all the colors in them that you adore. You can do a back wall in your kitchen OR use them on your countertop. Just make sure to seal the frout really good.
Gawd...is that going to look cool.

I've seen them and gone to stroke them even in the store, but I don't have a project currently that can use them.

I'm a little jealous, 'cause they are just that cool.
:-)

Oh, and thanks for the tour through your head. Pretty neat ride.

Wow, your kitchen is 90's!!
You are sooo lucky. My kitchen, well it sucks, hugely sucks. The deal was to blow it up and renovate it when we bought the house. I flat out told my husband I loved the house but hated the kitchen. He promised to take care of it. NOPE. I still have a kitchen that has shit in it from the flipping 70's, I kid you not and then the previous owners half assed and added some updates that were a joke. It is sad, really sad. But I told him to screw it now (because now he is looking at stuff, whatever) I'm moving in about a year. He can get whatever he wants to sell it eventually but I really am not putting any effort into it. I'm going to make sure my home in AZ has the kitchen I want and that is that.

So sorry, I vented on your blog, kitchen talk is a very very very sore spot with me and my husband is lucky I love him or else....

Make sure you post the pictures when you get it finished so I can drool and vent again (lol)

I made this for you: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2489/3794217590_e6912d5982_o.jpg

Used the picture of the beads as, well, beadspiration.

You can create your own at: http://www.susanjablonmosaics.com

It's rad.

You have too much to do to get possessed! I love that!

The idea of going around your house taking pictures of things you love is a great idea! I feel that I know you so much better now.
Maybe you should set it up as a meme and everyone in bloggyville do it!
I just love visiting your blog!

Face touching is gross.

I really liked this and I covet, biblical term, some of your items.

Mayo beats butter on grilled cheese hands down. Blueberries for Sal is a family favorite. I'd leave those shoes out by my door all the time.

Milk glass lamps are deadly. I had one fall off the dresser next to my bed at my grandma's onto my face in the middle of the night.

I could eat mayo on everything. Mmm.

Cute house!

You have some really unique stuff around your house! Makes me want to do a bit of a photo tour in mine...

I love that milk glass lamp and shade...too cute. And what a great idea about framing a piece of sheet from your grandmothers. One of my favorite smells in the world is my grandmother's sheets...they are super soft and I can't quite mimic the fragrance...though I use the same detergent she does...its just not the same.

That hand on your face makes me puke.

Reason 2839 why I am the pits. "We" are remodeling the kitchen and by we I mean Jason and my brother, I am in charge of meals and kids and I like it. I am making them pick out everything so it will be nice and pretty with zero character and I don't have to be bothered. Can you come over and give me some character?

I'm with Haley - love both the milk glass and its shade.

You have a fun collection. Every go to antique shows? Doesn't smell as musty as a dead person's home...

I get a choice of three to comment on today. I guess I could do all three (or even two), but that feels decadent. I'm going to comment on the housewares one, despite my man parts' jeering. Later I'll abuse them for it (I'm so sorry -- I model my self-censorship on that of the post's author).

The horseradish, not the marmalade, on the grilled cheese, right? And the mayo on the outside? I don't believe that.

I like vintage glass beads too. There must be a masculine way to integrate them. Maybe strung on the business end of a brown leather whip displayed on the wall. Or jammed into the eye sockets of mounted animal heads. Although I might be getting into Brokeback Mountain territory now.

Using all those vintage glass beads as door/drawer pulls looks amazing in my head. Not sure if it would translate well to real life, though. My creativity often ends the moment I try to recreate the Kodachrome images in my head.

Lovely tour through all the bits and pieces that make you so undefinable!

I haaaaate when the kids touch my face. HATE. Let's do the Fairmount flea market in September.

Also, I love milk glass and marcasite and your grandmother's framed sheet flower.

Lora, these pics make me want to take you out for drinks. Like, tomorrow. And steal that ring.

I'm stealing your idea.
