I think it's a sad state of affairs when it is practically okay for Britney and Christina and their contemporaries (Miley Cyrus is even pole dancing for the kiddos these days) to do these same things before they are even old enough for me to buy them a beer after the show but when a 27 year old man does these things flags are raised and whistles are blown and appearances are cancelled.

When Madonna, who was like 104 at the time, kissed Britney and Christina who were both in their early 20s?
Yeah, that was hardly shocking.
From Madonna, who invented it all when she sang Like a Virgin when she was 26 years old.
Or Britney, who was begging to be Hit One More Time before she got her driver's license. She was a Slave 4 Us by the time she was 20. And then things went downhill.
And Christina, who at least waited until she was in her early twenties to get Stripped and Dirrty.
If I had a little girl, which holy crap am I glad I don't have a little girl, I would be terrified that in 2009 it seems that sexuality is accepted and encouraged and portrayed in a horrifyingly positive light for young ladies but when a growedassed man does the same thing it is unacceptable and disgusting and appalling.
Poor Jake was born a boy and will never find an socially approved time in his life to be a flat out whore.

Wouldn't you know YouTube already removed it. I saw a snippet on Leno, but he satirized it, so I had to use my imagination on what really happened. Then NBC cancelled his appearance on the Today Show because of it. Whatever. It's all about shock these days. Long gone are the days when Britney's antics were considered scandalous.

That's so funny! I saw the show on Sunday and it seemed classic Lambert in my opinion. What I didn't like was (as Simon would say) the way he screached his way through the song. The dancing and show weren't over the top - his singing was.
I like you do not follow tv so I not only did I not know who Adam Lambert was I didn't hear anything about this performance (which youtube won't let me see). I agree with you 100% about the way little girls are sexually charged. What is this world coming to when preteen girls are wearing thong underwear and gyrating their hips! I was still playing with barbie dolls at that age! Even at 31 I don't dress that way; it brings nothing but trouble. Let's start teaching our girls what it truly means to be women; sexy is not provacative and that if you allow men to treat you like a sex object that's all you will ever be to them. Power to the women!
I haven't seen the video. Wanna know why? Because when I read about the "incident" on the internet, I thought to myself, "who gives a flying fuck?" Are we seriously this... I don't know.. conservative? It's stupid. That's all I've got to say about it.

I'm in total agreement about the double-standard. I'm probably old enough to be your mother and the video age began when my kids were babies...I'm glad they grew up before it became the goal of every ten year old girl to look and act like any number of today's teenage tabloid targets.
The way I see it, we should all refuse to say the Pledge of Allegiance until Adam Lambert can act like Whoreville Redenbacher on TV just like the females. Oh, and I blame Nancy Reagan for the whole shebang...or 'she bang', whatever...

This is so absolutely crappy! I remember when my cuz sent me the video about 75 days ago *just kidding, it wasn't that long ago. But anyway I was highly pissed. My cuz is gay, fabulous and Pagan, so you know that he gets criticism from everywhere, but the whole thing has made him an amazing/tough/take crap from no one/successful man.
Your post reminds me of something I was just discussing with a friend of mine who teaches philosophy of religion. He is Pagan, but he is soooooo deep in the broom closet that no one would find him, even it they knew he was there. But I get him because some have to make certain sacrifices for the greater good.
Okay, back to my discussing with my friend. He told me his department has issues with him discussing The Golden Compass to address different types of beliefs. The thing that bothers me is that if you go and sign up for a religious studies program anywhere (at least the places I've checked) you can not complete the program without studying some part of the Bible. Try making Witchcraft 101 part of religious studies and I assure the HUGE NO will smack the requester right on gut.
So yes, society is that weird when it comes to self-established standards.

If Adam Lambert had done the exact same act on women instead of men, there would have been no hue and cry. People can pretend all they want that it was too sexually explicit. Their real problem is that it was too gay and that's what offended them. The least they could do is own their prejudice.
And please with the concern over the children who saw it. It was the very last act of the show, which means it aired at like 11pm. Why were there any children watching at all, let alone at that hour?
