tuesday

I found a couple pairs of new pants the other day.  At Express, where I didn't think I'd have any luck.  I bought those Editor pants that they are (supposedly) famous for.  A little bit of a lower rise than I wanted, but they fit okay everywhere and look okay.

Dress pants are just gross anyway, so what's the difference how high they come up on your waist?

I have had them for over a week, but just wore them for the first time yesterday.  Today I'm back to my pair of navy blue khakis because I am headed to a men's drug rehab/lock up this afternoon and I don't want to play the part of Professional Lady Visitor.  It's a bad part to play.

I have not found a couple new kittens yet, but I'll be looking harder when we come back from vacation.  Life should settle down in April and that's when kittens start coming into season.  Hunting off season can be really frustrating.

***

1) I tried my bathing suit on the other day just to make sure it fits before I wear it in front of my family.
2) It struck me that it's weird to care what you look like in a bathing suit in front of your family so I took it off before looking in a mirror.

The Whole Family is going on vacation.  I'm the only girl, but luckily all three boys are coupled up so I won't be the only girl like I was when I was a kid.  Three of us have kids, one apiece.  Jake is the only boy cousin.  Jake has four girl cousins in all.  Ask him how he feels about that next time you talk to him.

I've never been on a Whole Family vacation before.  Not even as a kid.  I got left at home a lot because I wasn't "good enough" to go on family vacations.  True story.
Well, guess what that means?  My Whole Family hasn't been on a Whole Family vacation before either, because I wasn't there.
I never knew that family vacations were happening as they were happening.  They happened while I was at my moms or a friends' or something I guess.  I'd find out later when the pictures got developed and left around the house or the brothers started asking why I didn't go with them. Ask me how I feel about that next time you talk to me.

I finished A Game of Thrones last night.  I'm so geeked out over it all I can hardly stand it.  I'm going to return it to the library and hope they have the second book.  If they don't have it, I may just buy it on my Nook.

Jake got a Kindle Fire for his birthday last weekend from his Uncle who Buys Awesome Gifts.  If I didn't have a Nook, I'd be jealous.  The Uncle who Buys Awesome Gifts is dating the First Grade Teacher from Jake's School.  I really hope he doesn't tell anyone that Miss R bought him a Kindle Fire.  We should probably have that talk tonight.

It's hard to believe that I'm going to have a six year old on Saturday.  We had a cake for him last weekend.  It said "Happy Almost Birthday Jacob".  He insisted on the "almost" part.  That's how he is.  Almost six going on almost 76.  He was born an old man.

I cannot stress enough how I HATE buying pants! Especially work pants. Jeans are hard enough for me and my apple shaped body and no butt. I wear a certain type of jeans and they are the only ones that fit me right so I just buy a bunch of pairs of them. They are from American Eagle. Work pants are a whole other story.

I am going on a whole family vacation next year that involves not only brothers and sisters but also cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents. My aunt and uncle- who are brother and sister- always have at least one fight at an family gathering and my aunt who is married my uncle makes comments about how her daughters are fat. Why I am going on vacation with these people I have no clue.
Have Fun!

I love when young kids have old souls. Family vacations freak me out every year. Mike's family is amazing but I'll be honest [getting vain here] I'm the biggest girl in the family. His brothers both have small women in their lives so I get rather uncomfortable at the beach, and during family picture events. I'm working on getting over that [while working on getting over my weight physically and mentally]. I don't think it's strange to worry about what you look like in front of family - but I get your point 100% if it was my mom, my dad or my family I'd be less worried - since it's his family, now OUR family since we are married it's still a bit worry some but I'm trying. ;)

FYI about the second book, it's a bit of a slog at the beginning. Back story and, well, Stannis is a bit dull, which is only partly why no one wants him to be king. There is a lot of battle stuff and war-mongering ...zzzzzz .... but it picks up.

Six, eh? Congrats. The year the girl turned six was an interesting one b/c suddenly, she could all these things that used to require me or her dad to get up early on the wknd to help her with. Every year after she's achieved some new self-sufficiency milestone that makes all those years of her clinging to me like a Rhesus monkey worth the effort and the very wrecked upper back.

Pant shopping, ugh. I'm always kidding myself that I'm on the way to a lower number on the scale so I hold off buying any until I reach the point where it would be considered cruel and unusual punishment to wear what I've got any longer. Then I run in, grab the two closest to the size I think I am, try them on with my eyes closed, and buy the lesser of the two evils. Consequently I've got a closet full of pants that are either too big or too small and absolutely nothing flattering. I know this and yet it continues to be my preferred way to clothe my nether regions.

Tons and tons of birthday wishes to Jacob. I'm beyond thankful that our boys made our worlds collide 6+ years ago. I can't imagine that the me I'd be without a Lora shaped crater in my life would be someone I'd care to hang around with! xoxoxo

Gonna start book three as soon as I finish whatevertheheck I it is I'm reading now.
I'm only guessing that book four will tie everything together at the end.

On a non-pants-related note, Mato Tato soup tonight. Well, maybe that is pants-related.

Amen on the pants. I pulled on a pair the other day when I had exactly 37 minutes alone to shop for "professional" clothes but as soon as they were on, all I could think of was: Lunch lady. I look like the lady in the cafeteria. (Which was my grandmother's job, I'm not casting aspersions...but I don't want to wear my grandmother's work pants, is all.)
Good luck with the Whole Family vacation. We do that once every few years (the WF is very big) and it's interesting and usually fun, usually more so for the kids. Look out for the many-headed hydra ("what do you wanna do?" "I dunno, what do YOU wanna do?") and give yourself mental deadlines for decisions. Have fun!

I am so glad you are all geeked up about The Game of Thrones, too. I watched the series on HBO and when it went off I was jonesing for it to come back. I asked for the books for Christmas (the set was on sale for $20ish). I've already read nearly 200 pages of book two. I had to finish all the Steig Larsen books before I could read the Martin ones.

Why are you looking for kittens? Must have missed that post.

Still worrying with the ole work pants. Hope that sorts itself out soon.

You were trying on that bathing suit to see how you would look on the WFV. Weren't you. *grin*

I've never been on a WF vacation and am green with envy. We took our kids on the Family Vacation. They didn't have much fun and consequently we didn't go after a couple of times. But they still talk about it. Hope you all have a wonderful time and make a ton of memories.

Oh yes, when I make an apple pie there will be some chedder in its future. :)

I hate buying pants too. I'm almost thankful for the recent health issues and I fit into my old jeans again, so no need for shopping except in my own closet.

I think whole family vacations are overrated, but maybe because my family always ends up fighting when we're all together not on vacation. I hope it's not like that for you and everyone has a great time.

Happy almost birthday for Jake. I can't believe I'm registering my baby for Kindergarten, but at the same time, I'm so glad to be moving past the baby stuff. I prefer kids to babies. Kids are more fun.

Ha ha ha and also YES. I somehow grew up without realizing this, and then was really frustrated when we kept going back to the shelter and finding NO KITTENS. Where is this kitten epidemic I keep hearing about? Finally I asked someone, and she told me the facts of kitten life. There is a time for kitten crops, and it is not until spring/summer.
