technical assistance

A few months ago, my Google Reader started crashing.  First there were blogs in there I didn't subscribe to.  Then, clicking on the blogs that I did subscribe to lead me to websites for penis enlargement and fake Rolexes?  Rolexi? Rolex? Now my feed is a mess, every once in awhile I will see that a blog I like to read has 10 updates after not seeing anything for weeks but if I try to visit that blog I'm re-routed to a spam site.

I tried addressing this issue with Google, only to be told it was a known issue without a fix.  Nice.

I tried fixing it myself, but all of the fixes I know "are not available at the present time".

So I need a new feed reader and I need everyone's blog addresses again before I totally lose touch and fall even more behind on my stalking.

What reader can I use that is easy to manage, preferrably has an Android app associated with it, and doesn't make it look like all my friends are selling blackmarket Viagra and stiletto shoes?

Unless they are selling blackmarket Viagra and stiletto shoes.

One thousand thank yous!

(Edited to say that this is NOT A VIRUS! I've checked, the IT people at work have checked, and I've ran checks from both my work and home computers.  Apparently, according to Google and to the IT guys, it has something to do with the implementation of Google+.  Which I hate and I'm upset I ever even opted into it.  I keep meaning to see if you can delete yourself from it without totally  messing up your Google accounts)

It may not be the reader, you may have a virus. There was a virus that most internet providers have a "fix" for but this virus redirects all of your web addresses. Try using AVI or go to this link http://www.wiki-security.com/wiki/Parasite/DNSChanger. Found the info on wikipedia.

Here are instructions from the FBI website: http://www.fbi.gov/news/stories/2011/november/malware_110911/DNS-changer-malware.pdf

Hope this helps!

PS You can also call your internet provider for help.

I'm not tech savvy but the hubby is. I will ask him if I remember tonight (email me if you need to remind me and realllllly wanna know what he says). That being said I've tried to use Bloglovin' but I think mostly just fashion blogs are on that and it's like a "join to flaunt your blog" type thing. Sort of annoying.

I've started going to blogs and signing up for email alerts to their new posts. That's how I get yours everyday. If I have time I go though google reader, but I rarely have time. This way only my favorites are what I worry about.

**** I have the email subscribe thing on my blog :)

YEah, that sounds weird. I'd look into it more. I only use reader but honestly tend to get most of my links from either my blogroll of fave peeps like you or from twitter. ;)

And yes, you can totally get rid of your Google+ profile. I did. (For this email address, anyway. Long story.)

crazy. I use google reader without any issues. I don't have any other suggestions. I'll go with this comment being the least helpful comment. :)

If you use firefox you can add a firefox reader to the browser itself. It's kind of a nice one actually. I've switched to reader though, because I wasn't sure how to read the firefox ones from other computers.

It sounds like a Google Redirect always a fun thing to have- like herpes. We were directed to Google Ukraine or some weird other Slavic Google page.
And since you are the only one who reads my blog:

I hope you got this straightened out because it sounds like a royal mess. I'm at www.justwishes.blogspot.com but I'm shutting that down soon.

I use FEEDLY for my reader now. I LOVE IT! It will take everything you have added to your Google Reader and put it in their stuff. And whatever you add via Feedly will automatically be synched with GR.
