wine! I need a glass or I start to get too antsy... and when I make a mess I get more pissed... it's a vicious cycle. This year I used a bottle of beer to calm me... worked well too.

I wish I had read this before making cookies that bourbon trick sounds like a winner! V-Day is coming up so maybe I'll make special batch of cookies for the Mr. w/ bourbon!!!

I baked late... like this past weekend just because I had the stuff at home. Now I'm passing them out. New Year Cookies!!!

I made some oatmeal cookies and since I'm not a huge fan of raisins I used some dried cherries left over from some other recipe some other time. Also, used walnuts instead of pecans and at the last minute put a cup of chocolate chips in the dough. Using an ice cream scoop to measure the cookies out makes very large cookies and you really only need one...it is true. I use the Massey bourban vanilla. This is my first year for it, and I'm not sure it is the very best, but it is good. I didn't get started early enough to make my own.

I'm in the mood to bake a bunch of stuff and our daughter is staying with us this week while she works in Dallas. We are going to make sausage balls tonight for me to take to different parties. They are truly a Southern comfort food that everyone loves. It is not a diet food, though. My mother in law used to make them every year and she loved them. My mother and my mil loved to make candy, too. I'm not so much into the candy making.

Most of the cookies I bake during the holidays are traditional Norwegian ones....recipes handed down from generation to generation all the way from the Old Country - sandbakles, fattigmand, crumkake, rosettes, lefse. And my thing is candy - I LOVE to make homemade candy, especially fudge!

I have no secrets. Every year I find new recipes and stick with them. Last year it was Oreo Cookie Balls, this year it might be these snowball (also what I'd call butterball -as there is a LOT of it) cookies. A few years ago it was Paula Deen's ooey gooey whatever cookies. But you - you are my idol w/cookies now. Give me some. Or else. :>

Mmmm they sound good! I've never heard of bourbon vanilla, but it sounds interesting. Wish I could taste it w/out going to the trouble of making it! I usually make choc. chip, peanutbutter (I have a great recipe and never use shortening); these chocolate cookies w/ melted mint creams on top; bourbon balls (chocolate), and oatmeal raisin. I love cookie baking, it's how I know it's Christmas.

First, thanks for the mention. Second, is it wrong of me to be overly excited for cookie baking this year simply because of the bourbon vanilla? I can't wait to see how they turn out! I'm making cutouts, chocolate crinkle, & rolo turtles which aren't really a cookie so much as a candy, but it's still a holiday treat.
